Used bulk, dry, storage equipment is a product area that A&I Equipment deals in. Cone bottom silos, bulk silos, powder silos, resin silos are terms that describe a typically round, freestanding steel structure that is weather tight, with a bottom that is cone shaped to cause all the stored product to empty out of the silo by gravity. The silo must be designed to be strong enough to accommodate the weight of the stored product. This is usually expressed in a density rating, pounds per cubic foot. The shape of the bottom of the silo may vary to facilitate the flow of the stored material, such as a 45 degree cone, a 60 degree cone, an offset cone, a chisel point and others. The silo may also be equipped with mechanical feeders, fluidizing systems using compressed air and vibration motors to also encourage product flow. The top of the silo typically has a safety railing and ladder, possibly an air venting dust filter if the silo is to be filled pneumatically. For ease of transporting the silo to its service location, silos are typically 12 foot in diameter or less, with lifting attachment points provided. When purchasing a bulk, storage silo, be sure the density rating is equal or greater to the maximum density of your product and that you have investigated the flow characteristics of your product to ensure your product will exit the silo. Also be sure and ascertain that the purchase price reflects possible removal costs, loading costs and transportation costs.
